Food is Ishq with Tanishq

This is Tanishq. He is eleven years old now and is on the autism spectrum. He enjoys cooking and has gained a lot of culinary skills since the past few years.

Tanishq was diagnosed with PDD – NOS at the age of Two.

He was not interested in Cartoons, but loved to watch FoodFood Channel.

Kitchen time was one routine he liked. At the age of 5, one day he indicated and insisted on flipping Dosas with his limited vocabulary. Soon he was able to pour and spread the batter easily. He was beginning to enjoy the cooking sessions. His parents under strict supervisions started permitting him to assist them while they were cooking. The channel FoodFood which he loved to watch was in Hindi, and he soon memorized the names of all ingredients in Hindi. Soon he picked up browsing through other food channels and wanted to cook something which he had liked watching.

He now cooks with ease South Indian staple food items like, rice, sambar, dosa , chutney etc.

He is verbal now, and his cooking vocabulary has improved.

His parents believe that his passion for cooking will help him overcome his sensory issues. And this passion would also help him in the future. A few celebrity Chefs have also commented and encouraged him on their own social media handles.

Tanishq is one among the few children to be featured on the Chef Sanjeev Kapoor’s social media handle for the contest #BachpanSeChef, which encourages children to exhibit their cooking skills.
