Meet Poonam Shroti , Founder of Uddip Social Welfare Society, CEO of Ummeideknayeudaan, a Motivational Speaker/TEDx Speaker/Youth Icon Social Activist/Campaigner and Social Entrepreneur.
Poonam Shroti from Bhopal, is a person with a Rare disorder Osteogenesis Imperfecta by birth. This is called as Brittle Bone Disease. Because of this disease, the person cannot walk and has multiple fractures while growing up. Poonam has had to undergo multiple operations due to these fractures and has numerous plates fixed in her body. Her height is also only two feet and eight inches (2’8”).
Despite the weak bones and numerous other health issues which she had to face , she attended School and College as a normal student and completed her whole education as a regular student. She is completely confined to a wheel chair and dependent on others to do the daily chores.
She completed B.Com . did a MBA in Finance and a PG Diploma in Personal Management. She never let her challenges stop her from pursuing her education dreams.
She was confident that her education and her achievements would sail her through good job opportunities. The qualifications which she had could have got many individuals decent placements. But unfortunately , Poonam had to face many rejections at the interviews. Her height and her disorder was one major concern at most of the interviews.
Her breakthrough came when a Talent Acquisition Firm in Bhopal , saw her potential and her keen interest in getting into a main stream work place. She was appointed as a Dy. Manager HR and continued working there for 6 years (2008 -2013).
Given her disability, she had seen a lot of challenges in her life – education , career ,work – all posed different problems to her . She says her disabilities helped her to see different perspectives , and helped her grow with every new challenge. Deep inside, she had a strong desire to do something for the society. She banked on her strength and her will power , and decided to utilize her uniqueness as her strength , to help numerous other specially challenged individuals for enhancing their personalities. She wanted to empower and create means of livelihood for these individuals . With this thought in my mind, she left her job and breathed life into Uddip Social Welfare Society.
Her determination and the support she had When she started this Society, helped her to establish a strong foundation . The main focus areas for Poonam were – Disabled Empowerment, Women Empowerment and Rural Development. She looks back and says that in just a little over half a decade, she has helped numerous persons to overcome their mind blocks and change their personalities.
Uddip Social Welfare Society is a registered organization. Poonam has laid out big plans for its growth and spread across different segments. Her main and personal attention is more on the developments for Differently Abled. She takes a personal interest in counseling and motivating the persons – and it is no wonder that She is the Motivator and the Role Model to many now.
Poonam , through her society is focusing on different areas which need immediate attentions. She works on Women empowerment and literacy . She is reaching out to rural areas to improve skills which would help the persons have decent livelihoods.
She reaches out to Recruiters and Corporates and speaks about the need for Inclusion. She even trains them in Inclusive employment.
She continues to speak about the need for Disabled friendly environment and structures.
Poonam faced some more personal hurdles. She says ” In 2018, I was in Coma for 2 months and was in ICU for 3 months (Due to Brain Hemorrhage). After recovering I have never let physical disability to stop me from achieving my dreams and stood strong like a Warrior. I started motivating our youth to achieve their dreams. My motto to motivate youth is “If I Can, you definitely Can”
Today Poonam is a Motivational Speaker , Keynote Speaker and a Chief Guest at many places. She has conducted many self developments programs. She has been on TedX Talk shows on many occasions , and has been in the news for many positive initiatives. Being an influential person she has been able to make many organizations join hands with her to implement some of her programs.

Developing skills and capacities of persons with disabilities and enabling them to realize their potential and latent talents.
Uddip social welfare society is a social enterprise with an aim to empower persons with disability by providing them with employment services, pre-employment services, and supplemental education, counseling and support services. They also provide consultancy and training for other institutions and NGOs and technology services. The problem that they have identified is that persons with disability are not aware of jobs available, and lack the necessary skills to be eligible for them, and therefore, mostly remain jobless. Uddip solves this through training, skill building, providing assistive aids and education; building the necessary supply. On the demand side they create the necessary awareness among companies .
Uddip always has made an attempt to ensure the Right to Justice, Peace, Development, No Caste, Class, Gender based Discrimination and Discrimination on the bases of disability. Uddip works for a society in which the poor have control on their natural as well as livelihood resources, people co-exist with nature, equality prevails in the society, and the citizens of India have strong moral values.
