Dr Shanthipriya, a Parkinson ’s Disease Warrior, shares her journey of transformation through her artworks in her soon-to-be-released book Metamorphosis.

Metamorphosis – Reflections on My Life’s Journey

In a poetic way Dr.Shanthi addresses Parkinson’s

Stumbling upon an opportunity,

As a lotus blooms from the marsh ,

Accepting you ,

Overcoming you ,

Showing the world I can,

As a caterpillar takes off into a butterfly ,

Reborn with resilience and compassion,

Restoring my journey as a warrior,

Dancing all the way, with you… my stranger, Mr.Parkinsons

Her journey after being diagnosed with Parkinson at a young age has been with grit and determination. After getting over her initial difficult stages she was more determined to face the challenges, and further help others to start believing themselves. She founded SAAR FOUNDATION a NGO to exclusively address the needs of persons with Parkinson’s.  Dr.Shanthipriya developed an interest towards Art after visiting an Exhibition a couple of years back. Being selected as a finalist in the Art for Inclusion in 2019 conducted by India Inclusion Summit gave her further confidence to pursue her new found talent and love.

During the lockdown she spotted a Poet within her, and she began exploring and presenting her thoughts in a Poetic manner. Her book Metamorphosis has six sections Vena vid vici (came saw conquered), Reverie, Elysian (paradise), Meraki (something about your soul creativity), Crux of life, and Eunoia (beautiful thinking). Each painting, mostly abstract, will have a verse to it.

In 2020, Dr,Shanthipriya became the first Indian to be selected as one of the 15 ambassadors for the sixth World Parkinson Congress.

Dr. Shanthipriya’s Book – Metamorphosis Reflections of My Life’s Journey was launched on 12th March 2021 at  Art Houz, 123 Sterling Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai

Dr. Shanthipriya held her first solo exhibition, Minerva, at Art Houz in Nungambakkam on March 12 and 13.

Dr.Shathipriya in her own words –

“ Metamorphosis is A Change Of The Form Or Nature Of A Thing Or Person Into A Completely Different One. When The Caterpillar Thought It Was The End Of The World It Turned Into A Butterfly, This Is My Story…

I am Dr. Shanthi Priya a consultant ophthalmologist by profession, a fitness enthusiast, a writer, a young-onset Parkinson’s disease warrior (a chronic progressive neurological disorder with no cure) since 10 years at the age of 38, and a self-taught artist. My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, some style. April 2019, I founded SAAR FOUNDATION a non-profit organization to make a difference in the life of a person with Parkinson’s.

“My journey as an artist

An artistic person since childhood doing paintings for school with no formal training. This came to a halt when I joined medical school. Attending a painting exhibition rekindled my passion for painting again. It was difficult with a disability but I slowly learned to overcome the difficulties. Being the top 8 finalists at Art for inclusion a part of India inclusion summit gave me confidence.”
