” We are delighted to introduce you to Josie. Josie submitted a stunning entry to our Christmas Card competition and we just had to share a bit more about her talents with you all.

Josie a 23 year old Multi – Media artist from Sydney Australia. A versatile and talented artist, Josie’s works fizz with energy, passion and are a riot of colour. She happily works with a number of media including acrylics, oils and epoxy resins; although her favourite technique at the moment is flow art with acrylic on canvas.

Having learned to paint landscapes at a class at Sydney’s Hazelhurst Art Gallery, Josie began working as a visual artist in 2014. She now has her own studio at home, where, in addition to her painting, she creates resin finished homewares with help from her team of support workers. She has also recently been asked to create a cover for a book about Mary Wade, one of the founding mothers of Australia, who is her 5 x great grandmother.

Josie is a seasoned exhibitor. As the only Australian representative of  See more for Heart & Sold A UK based collective for Artists from around the world with Down Syndrome, she has had her works shown in London, New York and the Salford Museum in Manchester UK.  She has previously taken part in the DSNSW Show Off Festivals, the Sydney RAW events and was previously one of the featured artists for International Day of PWD exhibition at the Hazelhurst Art Gallery in Southern Sydney . She has also been the recipient of a Variety Club Award for Visual Arts.

When not in her studio, Josie can often be found following her other passion – music. As well as having an eclectic taste in bands, regularly attending gigs and festivals, Josie is an accomplished drummer and is currently enjoying twice weekly drum lessons.

Josie currently splits her time between her home in Sydney and in Far North Queensland, where they sometimes reside during the winter. “
