BLU-E – Accessibility Services

“The disability is not the problem. The accessibility is the problem.” – Mohamed Jemni

Blu-E is a newly founded consultant/builder/service agency, focusing on improving the accessibility in built environments and thereby promoting inclusion. The group consists of a team of engineers, Doctors, rehabilitation experts, persons with disabilities and social workers.

Blu-E has started its operations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, with plans to spread all over India.

Mohammad Shanil, a wheelchair user is one of the co-founders of Blue-E . He says that almost 99 percent places remain inaccessible. In most of the places there are no ramps , and at places where there are – they are not built according to the specified norms. Shanil says that the ratio in which wheelchair ramps are to be constructed in public places is 1:12.   And when the ramp is too steep, a wheelchair user has to again depend on others to push the wheel chair.

We started Blue-E with a vision to have an inclusive and accessible society where one doesn’t have to shelf their dreams just because of the lack of accessibility. And as a Solution provider  , we at Blue-E strive to solve this problem of lack of right access, to infrastructures and services. We provide solution and the means to tackle the hassle. Through our detail oriented accessibility audits and accessibility rating system we could help to convert offices, homes, restaurants etc to be a disabled friendly environment. We also provide services which could enable one to improve their quality of life, no matter what their disability is….. Says Shanil

Blue-E which started last month  aims at  providing accessibility audits, design appraisals, design and implementation and consultation.

Mohammad Shanil, Febin Joy ,Vignesh Srinivas,  and Gazan Moideen are The founders of Blue-E. Except Gazan the other 3 founders  are people with disabilities. Gazan as a student had seen students with disabilities struggle at Schools and had been interested in joining the Team.

Blu-E is soon planning to  create a mobile app where they give ratings to hotels, malls, buildings and other public places so that people with disabilities can access the place easily.
